Summer Is Coming...

...and the kids are headed towards a couple of months of summer vacation.

Jealous? Me too.

Let's get nostalgic for a minute. What do you miss most about being a kid?

I miss going to the pool all day, coming home and taking a nap, then going out with friends. I miss going to camp and meeting new people. I miss doing anything I want on a whim. I miss the anticipation of becoming an adult.

I miss playing baseball in the backyard all day long with those refreshing breaks for koolaid under the big oak tree near home plate.

I miss the trips to my grandfather's farm to explore. I don't miss the poison ivy!

I miss my physical flexibility. Being able to jump, run, and do all sorts of contortionist acts!

I miss sleeping 'til 9:00, getting up and watching tv until my mom came home for lunch and then begging her to let me go to the public pool.

I also miss playing kick ball in the field next to my parent's house. For that matter, I miss the field next to may parent's house as it's all been developed since I was a kid.

I miss getting all my cultural and entertainment needs met from cartoons.

I miss:
- the feeling that came with the last day of school, knowing that we were free for the next few months.

- how my life was unscheduled and there were days to get up and do whatever came to mind. I had little to know sense of a calendar or a task list.

- my body improving each year (getting taller, stronger, shedding baby fat, etc.) instead of degrading each year.

- the simple surprise of opening the fridge and finding that mom had made one of my favorite foods

I miss "the quarry". It was abandoned and full of cool water. My friends and I (or just I) would escape to it after two-a-days.
I miss my boss from the country diner I used to work in and the people I met there.
I miss seeing my brother all those months. I miss teaching him tee-ball and being so bored with him that it was a struggle to breath.
